Cinemira Youth International Youth Film Festival is the home of the most exciting short and feature films made for young audiences over the age of thirteen. Each year, films from dozens of countries compete for the Golden Squirrel Award, offering viewers a unique opportunity to discover the diversity of contemporary youth cinema. The program features hourly blocks of animated and live-action films, as well as some of the world’s most outstanding feature films.
This year, audiences will have the chance to see special feature films even before their Hungarian premiere, such as Orphan by Academy Award-winning director László Nemes Jeles, the Japanese anime Chao and Arco, winner of the Grand Prize in Annecy. Cinemira also returns to the classics: we will screen the cult classic Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me by David Lynch, who passed away this year.
The international section places special emphasis on award-winning South Korean short films, bringing to Budapest one of the strongest selections of contemporary youth filmmaking. Mixed shorts — such as School Beyond Boundaries, focusing on education and Love Affairs about the beauties and disappointments of first love — address young viewers with personal and timely themes.
Our motto: Watch and Create! That’s why, in addition to films, the festival offers a wide range of interactive programs.
Join us for a casting session if you’d like to try yourself as an actor, or take part in the Celluloid Dreams workshop, where you can draw your own animation onto real film stock. In the Makeup Room, professional film makeup artists will transform you, while in the Media Corner you can meet and talk with filmmakers.
The professional program also includes unique events, such as the lecture Children in Front of the Camera – From Casting to Distribution offering insight into the world of child actors, or the discussion Step Into the Universe of David Lynch and Twin Peaks!, where we reveal the secrets of the legendary director and his series.
Cinemira Youth is at once a cinematic experience, a source of inspiration and a space for creation — all within a community where young people can truly become part of the world of film.
