The Cinemira International Children’s and Youth Film Festival, celebrating its 5th anniversary, is targeting the 13+ age group with the Cinemira TEEN weekend. The special guest of the festival will be the Hungarian director of Stranger Things, Antal Nimród, with and the Hungarian behind-the-scenes secrets of the hit series Eufória will also be revealed. In addition to film screenings and interactive programs, the best full-length, short and animated films for teenagers of the year will be screened at the Corvin cinema for two days. The main prize for the best Hungarian short film for young people is decided by thousands of students. The opening film of the festival is the Berlinale Generation prize-winning Swedish film Comedy Queen, which Hungarian audiences can see for the first time at Cinemira.
In Cinemira’s competition program, more than thirty short films and animated films from 11 countries compete for the Golden Squirrel Award for the best film. Cinemira TEEN’s competition films deal with topics that affect the everyday lives of teenagers, such as love and break-up (Bird of Paradise, Cimate, Perfect Match), mental health (Summer Shower, There is Nothing Beautiful in the Deep), confronting history (Tears of the Seine, Closed Too Light, Good German Work, I Still Remember), domestic abuse (The Knife, The Tale of the Shadow Player) victim blaming and the importance of standing up for ourselves and each other (Take Away).
The panorama program features the most outstanding international youth films that have been screened from the most prestigious film festivals in the world or have just won awards, such as Olga (Hungarian premiere), which won an award at Cannes and is about a Ukrainian gymnast during the revolution, Comedy Queen (Hungarian premiere), chosen as the best youth film at the Berlinale, and Nothing, based on the stirring Danish bestseller.
The festival also provides an insight into the behind-the-scenes of filmmaking, so young audiences can try their hand at film. Young people interested in film directing or acting can meet the creators of world-famous series, influencers, casting directors, music video directors, and last but not least, they can participate in a real casting during the entire duration of the festival.
